We all know that postcards can be your cheapest yet most effective medium of advertising. You can creatively say your message in a card that is the size of a half bond paper and still move people to action. Sometimes, depending on the material and the design, your postcard printing can come out pretty expensive. But with good planning and following some basic principles, you can get the nicest postcards for cheap. So if you have plans of putting out postcards, then read on.

1. Printing in Bulk. Or also called wholesale printing, this means that you the printing many copies of your postcards at one time will bring down the cost. The labor and the processing is the same for 1000 copies of postcards and 10,000 copies. If you are going to order less, you will still do layout, the printer will still have to process your postcards, and then after everything, you will only produce so much. That will make the cost higher. So if you are planning to send out postcards to the entire country, then you might as well order in bulk. And if the postcards are not limited by time, then you can double your order because you can send them out again at another time.Just remember, the more pieces that you order, the cheaper they get per piece.

2. Choosing the cheapest material. The main point of the material for a postcard is its durability. You are going to send a postcard through the post office and it will be handled by many people until it reaches its destination. You want to make sure that it gets to your reader in one piece. You do not have to choose fancy materials--you just need them to be sturdy. A thick white board would be enough. But just make sure that you a board that is thick enough for your purpose. You can save on other things, like the kind of board used, but not on the thickness. Sacrificing the thickness of your material will just destroy your postcard before it reaches your readers.

3. Limiting colors. It would be nice to have postcards that are colored back to back. But that would mean more expense. One way to save is to have a colored front and a one-color printing for the back. Or if you want, you can make your design into something that could make use of the color of your paper so that you will only need one more color to make a two-tone effect. For example, if your paper is white, you may opt for a black and white design so that you will only need to use black ink. You will greatly save in printing if you limit the colors used. But if you cannot help it, having full color only on side will greatly help you save instead of having it colored on both sides.

4. Design your own postcards. If we hired somebody to do the design, then of course we have to pay them for their professional fees, right? The talent feeds of designers can be pretty steep. And why not? They also carefully think of the design and spend time on it, so they might as well charge for their efforts. However, you can also do it yourself if you have some knowledge in basic desktop publishing software. Just make sure that you proofread your work many times before going to printing so that errors can be avoided. Or, you may wish to contact graphics design students to do it for you. They will charge a much lower rate than their professional counterparts.

You can save much in postcard printing without sacrificing quality. You just have to be resourceful so that you can come up with the greatest postcards at the least possible cost.
