Easter Island is one of the most isolated islands in the world. This island is inhabited and one of the mysterious. The eastern island is situated between the Tahiti and Chile; it is mostly made of volcanic which is formed in a triangular shape if seen from the aerial view. In this place the creation of small coral are existed beside the shoreline, the lack of coral reef has granted the sea to cut the cliffs roughly a lot of island. The coastline has numerous volcanic caves and lava tubes. It is the only sandy quite beach in the northeast coast where one can spend a peaceful vacation. When we think of this island, the first thought comes in mind is the huge carved stone figure. This huge stones are known as Easter Island heads or Eastern Island Stones. According to the evidence pointed by the archeological the discovery of eastern island was done in the 400 AD by Polynesians.
In the year 1722, a Dutch captain, Jacob Roggeveen sighted this island when he was traveling in this region. He found this place beautiful and visited; it was Sunday and coincidently the Easter Sunday, so the name was given to this island was Easter Island. In Spanish it is known as ‘Isla de Pascua’. Apart from the beautiful and amazing scenery, the main attraction of this place is the heads. This carved heads are called as Moai which are made from island rock. This Moai is scattered everywhere throughout the island in different sizes, shape and phases of completion. Various Moai are left incomplete in carving if noticed properly in this site. No one knew the intention of making this Moai and the reason behind it. According to the researchers, the Easter Island heads were carved by ancestors of the current inhabitants. In this island there were two categories of people, one were Long Ears while the other were Short Ears. The long ears were known as superiors and the short ears were enslaved by them and also forced to carve the Moai.
Plenty of heads were structured in this place; half of them were completed while rest of them remained unfinished. The reason why this Moai at Easter Island heads remained incomplete is, the short ears were enslaved by the long ears which couldn’t tolerate the torture, so they decided to take revenge and killed the long ears, in this then carving of the heads also stopped. While exploring here one can also notice that some of them are buried till their shoulders which were appeared like disembodied heads. Altogether the Moai were collapsed in the tribal wars around two hundred and fifty year ago. Many of this head were recently rebuilt for tourist attraction from the year 1950. Definitely, the Easter Island heads is one of the perfect places for planning one day trip.
